FAQ

Cocktail costing, answered

For each ingredient we take the pour size divided by the bottle size, times the wholesale bottle price (net of VAT, including excise at your country's rate). Garnish, ice and other per-serve items are added as fixed costs. The sum is your cost per serve.

Most cocktail bars aim for 18–22% pour cost, which is a gross margin of roughly 78–82% on the net price. Beer and wine usually run higher. The tool defaults to 20% and lets you change it.

From the Sipflow wholesale price database, built from supplier price lists and agreements in the markets where Sipflow is live. Prices are indicative wholesale list prices excluding VAT; your own deal may be better.

When a government announces a new rate, the toggle shows what each serve will cost you and the price that holds your margin.

Yes. Enter the price your guest pays. We strip your country's VAT rate on alcoholic drinks (21% in the Netherlands) before calculating pour cost and margin.

You still get the full calculation and report. Instead of connecting you to suppliers, we add you to the waiting list and send your request to our database of suppliers in your area as soon as the market opens.

That is the paid feature inside Sipflow. A free Starter account unlocks the full menu margin calculator, matched to your inventory, with bulk repricing when excise changes.
